Artist of the day, february 8: Mariusz Stawarski, Polish illustrator

Mariusz Stawarski (1961) is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in GdaƄsk. In the mid-1980’s he began to participate in international cartoon contests in Poland, Belgium and Turkey. He has received many distinctions and awards, including the Grand Prix of Satyrykon ’98, Second Prize '2014 and the Second Prize at Aydin Dogan Vakfi in Turkey in 2005. Together with Marek Stokowski he co-wrote the book Dreams for Adults and Children.

In 1999 he received an award for his illustrations for this book from the Polish section of the IBBY. It is at that time that he began cooperating with advertising agencies. In November 2006 he signed a contract with the New York-based Illustration Agency Lindgren & Smith. His clients included United Airlines, Heifer, Salt River Project, Eating Well Magazine or Pray!Magazine. The children’s book Sky Magic featuring his illustrations was published in the US in March 2009. A year later the graphic magazine My Dpi from Taipei (Taiwan) published a brief interview with him about the beginning of his work, sources of inspiration and plans for the future.
