Satyendra Pakhalé (also known as Satyen Pakhalé; 1967) is an industrial designer, designer and architect. He realizes projects from industrial design, applied research to product design, development and manufacturing. He works in the fields of product design, including consumer electronics, transportation, home appliances, furniture, digital products & computers, and architecture & interior design. In 2008, he was selected as one of L’Uomo Vogue magazine’s 80 most influential creative people with vision worldwide in design and architecture. His works are in permanent collections of several museums worldwide.
Multifaceted designer Satyendra Pakhalé established his design practice SPA — Satyendra Pakhalé Associates in 1998 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The studio has been active in several fields ranging from industrial design, healthcare, mobility, exhibition design, architecture and editions. Pakhalé was trained both in India (at the IIT-B Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay) and Switzerland (at the Art Center College of Design Europe). Subsequently, he was part of the pioneering ‘new business creation’ team, conceiving some of the first product ideas for new technologies in the area of digital communication, healthcare and mobility at Philips Design in the mid-’90s.
His design work is an act of unity going beyond any binary such as high- and low-tech, industrial production and crafts, functionality and poetic significance. Through a series of award-winning design projects for leading clients and industries, the practice has developed a worldwide reputation for designing diverse innovative typologies, pushing the limits of technology and materials. Renowned companies such as Alcantara, Cappellini, Franke, Fiam, Hästens, Magis, Moon Life Foundation, Poltrona Frau, Novartis, and Tubes rank among his clients
He has lectured throughout the world on platforms such as CeBIT Germany, Casa Brasil and Future Design Days Sweden. He was invited to devise and head the Master of Design for Humanity and Sustainable Living, Design Academy Eindhoven from 2006-2010. He was an advisor to the Ambassadors’ Board of Brain port Design & Technology (Eindhoven) and has been active as a design and cultural policy contributor to cultural institutions. His works are in permanent collections at prestigious museums throughout the world.
