The artist is represented by P.P.O.W, New York.
The intricate porcelain sculptures of Jessica Stoller draw on the medium’s historic associations with consumption and desire to create technically ambitious forms that fuse femininity and food with the grotesque. Stoller’s labor-intensive, hand-built works reframe perceptions of the decorative arts. Filled with rich ornamental texture reminiscent of Rococo excess and references to porcelain flowers made in 17th century Japan and China, her works depict pearl necklaces and tiered cakes alongside snails and severed hands as in Still Life (2013). They involve surface treatments like piping and carving as well as multiple layers of china paint post-glazing. She usually begins her works by sketching a reference drawing based on her personal library of images related to art history, fashion, and the body. An MFA graduate from the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Stoller was the recipient of a 2016 Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant.
