Artist of the day: Artist of the Day, August 1, 2023: Brandon Rike, an American graphic designer (#1868)

Brandon Rike has spent his 20+ year career as one of the top graphic designers in the music industry, working with a massive list of bands and artists, including Twenty One Pilots, Skrillex, Thirty Seconds To Mars, The Smashing Pumpkins, Blink-182, and Underoath, to name a few. In 2017, Rike founded the creative house Tension Division — providing full creative direction and design services for bands and artists throughout the album cycle. Rike has served as Creative Director and Lead Designer for album cycles for Twenty One Pilots, Pierce The Veil, Korn, Underoath, Smashing Pumpkins, Beartooth, Angels And Airwaves, AFI, Weezer, Starset, Des Rocs, and more.

"I look at the work that I get to create as a privilege. I wake up fully aware that this career is a gift, and stay committed to not taking any of it for granted. In a field where most designers lose their passion early on in their career, I’ve managed to stay excited, and keep my workload fresh. I hope that I can spread some of that excitement and dedication, and inspire students to apply it to their work. Graphic design is a grind. The amount of passion that you put into it is up to you. I enjoy creating things for a living, and I’m excited to provide classes that may help students to enjoy this work as much as I do."
