Artist of the Day, June 26, 2024: Lewis Pagé, a Québec sculptor (#2060)

Lewis Pagé (1931 - 2007) was a Québec sculptor oscillating between figurative and impressionistic, Pagé saw these two sources as inseparable in his approach.

Lewis Pagé devoted more than forty-five years of his life to sculpture. He plunged body and soul into this profession and, over time, developed his manners and ways.

Wanting to express himself with bronze (the art foundries are non-existent in Quebec), he took courses and made trips to finally set up his foundry of private art in the city of Quebec in 1968. Thereafter, he Will be enthusiastically collaborating on the start-up of Inverness's commercial art foundries .

Pagé conjugates the figurative , sometimes he approaches it , sometimes he modifies it, if necessary he invents it in his desire to sing Quebec, to say to him "I love you".

During the forty-five years that he devoted to sculpture, Lewis Pagé lived for his art and with his art, which was particularly rare in Quebec at that time. Pioneering and developing original ways and ways of working the material, he will constantly want to invent and stand out. It is this determination and this quest for authenticity, combined with a rich artistic and poetic inspiration, that will earn him a place among the great sculptors of modern Quebec.
