Thomas Danthony, born  in the South of France, is an illustrator and designer now based in London. He graduated from a Master in Product Design. He dedicates himself to illustration after moving to London. Since then, Thomas Danthony as freelance for the Press and for advertising on difference projects, for european but also american clients such as Google, Arte, Netflix or Liberty. His cunning use of light and shadow, combined with his characters’ concealed faces give his compositions a mysterious and sometimes eerie aura. This mystifying mood also lingers into his personal work which often centers around the theme of travel, the romance of going on a journey, and how time can affect our memories of the places we’ve visited

Thomas Danthony established his studio in London in 2012 before moving his practice to Barcelona in 2020. His work spans from canvas paintings to commissions for international clients. His work has been exhibited in galleries around the world as well as seen on book covers, posters, magazines, large scale murals and global advertising campaigns. He has self published several of his works in the form of limited edition prints and artists books.

In 2019, Thomas co-created and curated the exhibition Touch Wood at the Old Truman brewery in London. It featured more than 50 international artists who produced original artworks for the show which raised funds for the World Land Trust, an international conservation charity that protects the world’s most threatened habitats.

Since winning the Handsome Future award, Thomas has gone on to show that he is one of the most talented and upcoming illustrators adding the likes of M and C Saatchi, Microsoft, Nokia and Little White Lies to his client list. His work often contains a narrative enhanced with the clever use of lighting that allows the images to tell a story and make the spectator think.

Thomas Danthony gets his inspiration from cinema, architecture, photography and painting. To understand his vintage world, you need to come back to the beginning of the 20th century. Fond of the early twentieth century illustration, Thomas is using gouache to create his artworks. Through round shapes, solid colors and strong contrasts that characterize his aesthetic, He demonstrates a great sense of detail and composition. His work often contains a narrative enhanced with a clever use of light that allows the images to tell a story and makes the spectator think. Since his first solo show in Paris in 2015, he is now painting regularly.
