Garth Glazier (1958) is an American illustrator, fine arts artist.
This is how Garth Glazier describes himself:
Imagine what it would be like to walk into a commercial art studio in Detroit in 1981 without any formal training as an illustrator and ask for a job and you will have a pretty good idea of how my career as a professional illustrator began. As a graduate with a BFA from a small liberal arts college I knew that I had to find a way to make a living by drawing. Getting a job in a studio gave me a chance to learn from some of the best talent in the country. I always planned to return to fine arts, but after 28 years I am still in "the business" and still finding ways to get paid to draw and paint."
I graduated from Alma College Michigan with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking and Design. My career path took me into the world of illustration for four decades working first as a studio artist in Detroit and then as a nationally represented independent illustrator. I have illustrated virtually every subject from cars to editorial pieces to murals.
I am a storyteller using design, pattern and shape in my illustration. Portraits and landscapes are major themes in my work as well as technology. My career goal has always been to make fun and meaningful illustration. As a member of the "creative class," I think you should ask yourself every day whether you are advancing your creative abilities and contributing to your knowledge and professional goals.
As a fine artist, my work tends toward a narrative approach, and as such, many of my paintings seem to fit within a storytelling genre. I like to think that each of these works of art is a little piece of my own ongoing story as a native of the Great Lakes region. I grew up outside under the trees and in the woods so to speak so nature is always front an center. My art is and always will be about storytelling whether it overlaps into what most would call illustration. As a result, my work can seem like a prelude to a story.
