Artist of the day, September 28: Cyril Lancelin, French artist, Architect, Installation, sculptor

Cyril Lancelin (1975( has been working as an architect for nearly two decades, managing large rendering teams for some of the world’s most respected architecture firms. After the rapid growth of his Instagram page, where he uploads conceptual residences and installation pieces, he decided to take a leap of faith and break out on his own. His creative studio, Town and Concrete, is a one-man operation that gives Lancelin the freedom to meld art and architecture. He creates renderings of dreamy concept residences and sculptural installations imagined in large architectural scale. His loyal and growing following brings him commissions — 99% for art installations — from places as far-flung as China and Dubai.

Since completing his architecture degree in 1999, he has been working on habitats and their boundaries. He uses Primitives Shapes in his drawings and installations, making them the pillar of his work. With the help of parametric tools, he is making research in different fields.

He utilizes a vocabulary of classic forms and essential volumetric spaces to create unusual structures. In his vision forms are used at architectural scale to create transformative, experiential art. His most recent project was a “Knot”, a mass-scale installation shown in China.

In April 2018, he presents two new installations «half line» and «sphere cube» during his first solo exhibition at the MR80 gallery in Paris.

In June 2018, he is displaying his new installation, Flamingo Torus, in New York City on Governors Island.

In September 2018, He has presented two new installations, Pyramid Sphere and Pyramid Tube in Philadelphia, curated by Art Production Fund for MIA festival, founded by JayZ.
