Artist of the day, May 30, 2020: Denis Lopatin, a Russian conceptual and live caricature artist (#1008)

Denis Lopatin (1977) was born in n the Far East of Russia, in the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, near Alaska. In 2002 he graduated from the Belarusian State University of Culture.

He began working as a newspaper cartoonist until 1994. Since 2002 He worked as an illustrator in newspapers, but in 2018, due to criminal prosecution for making a satirical poster for the rally, he was forced to leave Russia.

At the invitation of Cartooning for Peace, he came with his family to France. Now lives in France and work as conceptual and live caricature artist.

Artist of the day, May 29, 2020: Marcin Ryczek, a Polish photographer (#1007)

Marcin Ryczek (1982) is a conceptual photographer based in Cracow, Poland. Taking inspiration from the world of geometry, Ryczek’s artworks have a graphical quality with clear focal points, straight lines and minimal textures. He creates visual metaphors with simple photographic configurations, raising philosophical questions in a quiet, monochromatic way.

His photographs were presented, among others, at exhibitions in USA, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Romania, India, England, Austria, Denmark, Italy, Serbia, Taiwan and France.

One of the most influential American website The Huffington Post has recognized his photo as one of the 5 best photos in the world in 2013. His photo "A man feeding swans in the snow” was admitted to the prestigious collection of the Bibliotheque Nationale de France and the Silesian Museum in Poland.

His photos were placed in newspapers and portal from around the world (The Guardian, Der Spiegel, Yedioth Ahronoth, La Repubblica, Politiken, The Daily Telegraph, National Geographic…). In 2017, Marcin Ryczek’s photography was on the cover of the book 100 Great Street Photographs – by David Gibson.
