Artist of the day, May 4, 2021: Sam Pemberton, an Australian graphic designer (#1274)

 Sam Pemberton has a truly impressive portfolio of projects under his belt, that’s for sure. From branding an entire city to the redesign of the iconic woolmark, not to mention involvement in the AGDA including recently designing their collateral for them.

Sam Pemberton is an award-winning designer and art director with more than fifteen years’ experience at some of Australia’s most reputable brand and advertising agencies including Publicis Mojo, Landor Associates, EKH Branding House (now part of STW Group), Precinct, Principals, The One Centre, Generation Alliance and War Design.

Sam has led a number of complex projects such as corporate identities, destination brands, design strategies and advertising campaigns for several blue chip clients including Telstra Corporation, City of Melbourne, Australian Wool Innovation, Hilton Hotels, Vivid Festival, City of Canberra, National Museum Australia, Diageo, Philip Morris, Tata Group and Lion Nathan, among others.

Sam has been extensively awarded for his redesign of the iconic City of Melbourne logo and James Squire 'Man of Many Tastes' campaign. He has been recognised internationally at D&AD, The One Show by the New York Type Director’s Club USA, and features in the LogoLounge publication.

Sam can also lay claim to identities for some of Australia’s more grass-roots brands including Sydney Motorsport Park (formerly Eastern Creek Raceway), Australian Racing Drivers' Club, OPSM, Rugby World Cup, Built, Logan Wines and The Cool Hunter.

Sam is an active member of the Australian Graphic Design Association and was responsible for the design of their corporate collateral and annual events for a number of years.


Sam studied graphic design at Enmore Design Centre before concluding his studies as a multi-award-winning graduate of Billy Blue School of Graphic Arts. In 2000, Sam was awarded the Ross Renwick Award in recognition of the highest results for majors in Design, Advertising, Publishing, Packaging and Internet, and the coveted Yellow Sock Award.
