Artist of the day, April 16, Marc Rubin, American painter, graphic designer, illustrator

It is difficult to present Marc Rubin’s accomplishments in abbreviated form. While his works are rich with remarkable color, they are also rich in artistic process. Through formal training Rubin was taught the process of observing, drawing, composing and translating the human experience into inspired creations. The diversity in the artist’s work is derived from one source, all of the art of humankind made before him and contemporary to him in combination with his inventive additions. Rubin sees no reason to restrain his visions to a singular style of depiction. He uses myriad stylist tools to express each subject in a manner he feels is best suited to that subject. From 1977 onward his body of works would be defined as “Synchronism”. He is a most influenced by the era of forward thinking he was born into, mid 20th century America.

In addition to his work as a painter, Rubin is an award-winning graphic designer and owner of Marc Rubin Associates, which offers business-aligned creative solutions to graphic communications needs. He serves on the executive board of directors for the Arnot Art Museum, he is a member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the Design Management Institute and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He served on the board of The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes for twelve years and is a past board member of the Upstate New York chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts.
