Chris Fox is a contemporary sculptor who combines interventions, hybrid objects, drawings and models with architecture.
In 1997 he obtained Bachelor of Visual Arts with Honours from Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney and subsequently, in 2006 obtained a Bachelor of Architecture with Honours from University of Technology, Sydney where he was awarded the IESS International Scholarship in 2003 providing inclusion in the Socrates Erasmus Exchange for Master of Science in Architecture and studying at TU Delft, The Netherlands.
Chris has exhibited locally and internationally over the last 20 years and more recently completed site specific, architectural interventions and sculptures through private and public commissions, including Convergence (2011), Lobby and Atrium of Global Switch Data Centre, Paris, Mother of Invention (2011), etc...
Recent projects include the installation of Drift (2013) and Tracing Back to Bligh (2013) as commissions for the Commonwealth Parlimentary Offices in Sydney, and inclusion in shortlisted proposals for Creative Director of the 2014 Australian Exhibition for the Venice Architecture Biennale.
Awarded the Australia Council Emerging Artist Initiative Grant (2001) and Los Angeles Studio Residency (2010), Fox was founding Board Member of Imperial Slacks Collective (2000). Chris currently lectures and is Program Coordinator in the Art Workshops of the Architecture Faculty at the University of Sydney and is a Board Member of Artspace Sydney.
Fox’s practice investigates the intersections of art and architecture through exploration of machines, communications and technological infrastructure. A questioning of the materiality of the built environment prompts a reframing of the context in which we position it, and it’s impact on our everyday lives.
