Artist of the Day, August 21, 2026 : Vladimir Kolosov, a Canadian emerging artist, painter (#2611)

Born in the USSR, Canadian artist Vladimir Kolosov (1962) is a prominent neo-surrealist whose work bridges visual art, science, and philosophy. Now based in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, his diverse academic background in mathematics, physics, psychology, and music deeply informs his multidisciplinary creative practice.

Kolosov investigates human consciousness and time using oil, acrylic, watercolor, and pastels. As a master colorist, his vibrant, metaphorical compositions blend figurative and abstract elements to challenge viewers' perceptions of memory and identity. This enigmatic style is anchored in surrealism, metaphysical art, and abstract expressionism, as seen in major works like "Hidden Thoughts Are Leaking Out."

His acclaimed portfolio has earned international exhibition space across North America and Europe, alongside unique global collaborations like Italy's "Colours of My Ice-Dreams" project.

Beyond the canvas, Kolosov drives the contemporary art dialogue as a leading critic, author, and curator. He regularly publishes essays in international journals and authored the 2022 career retrospective “Vladimir Kolosov Through the Looking Glass.” As a member of the International Association of Art Critics and Co-Founder of the VOYZX Fine Art Project, he remains an influential force in shaping the global platform for modern metaphysical painting.

Artist of the Day, August 20, 2026 : Lubaina Himid, a British painter, curator (#2610)

Lubaina Himid CBE RA (1954) is a pioneering British artist, curator, and academic whose work centers on cultural history, identity reclamation, and activism. Born in the Zanzibar Sultanate in 1954, she moved to Britain as an infant and later studied Theatre Design at the Wimbledon College of Arts before earning a master's degree in Cultural History from the Royal College of Art.

As a leading figure in the 1980s British Black Arts Movement, Himid curated groundbreaking exhibitions like The Thin Black Line and Into the Open, which heavily championed black women artists and a new generation of black British creators.

Her own artistic practice features vivid, large-scale installations—such as Naming the Money, a crowd of 100 life-sized cutouts representing enslaved Africans in European courts—that contrast striking visuals with poignant historical truths. Her immense contributions to the art world earned her the Turner Prize in 2017, a CBE in 2018, and selection by the British Council to represent the United Kingdom at the 2026 Venice Biennale.
