Artist of the Day, July 13, 2021: Andrew James Raymond, an American calligraffiti artist (#1328)

Andrew James Raymond does not see himself as artist. He is a house painter by trade and a laborer who has done bits of everything from Taxi driving to warehouse management, and he found a hidden path to the art world.

Growing up in Ocala, Fl., his earliest influences were the punk and metal bands he was introduces at a young age, He moved quickly from scrawling punk lyrics on school property to writing nicknames on everyone's property.

The last of his mother to cancer as a teenager was the catalyst for years of questionable decision making and mistakes that only graffiti saved him from. wandering along in the dark to paint became a purpose, and an escape from worse behaviors. His artistic criminality  gained him a few influential connections into the art world, and he tool his first steps into it by painting a few pieces for the Ocala State Park.. Andrew has no formal training other than the mentorship of older graffiti writers, and the main body of his work can only be found exploring abandoned places around the state.
