Amir Nikravan (1983) is an Iranian-Mexican-American artist based in Los Angeles. He received his BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2004 and his MFA from the University of California, Irvine, in 2011. His hybrid practice fuses elements of painting and sculpture resulting in highly refined objects, complicating the expectations of form and perception. In Nikravan’s most recent works, traditional Islamic forms are appropriated and filtered through the lens of Western Modernism, revealing the latent politics of form that lie beneath the surface of architecture and design. Nikravan is the recent recipient of a 2019 California Community Foundation fellowship.
