While many fliers plastered on bulletin boards and telephone poles end up weather-worn and in the trash, some earn ephemera status and adorn the walls of a gallery.
That's the case for bands like Phish, at least. Dozens of posters and fliers will tell the story of the Burlington-born jam band in a new exhibit called "Phish in the North Country,".
The exhibit looks at the band's 30-plus year history, starting in Burlington bars and nightclubs like Nectar’s, and Hunt’s to stages in Boston, Albany and Saratoga Springs, with a focus on shows within a driving distance for Vermont fans.
A display of different packaging of Ben & Jerry's Phish Food ice cream, named after the Burlington band, is seen at a new exhibit of posters and artwork from the band's career at the Amy E. Tarrant Gallery in Burlington.
Fine art pieces will accompany concert posters, as well as special edition posters in honor of the 20th anniversary of the WaterWheel Foundation, the band's charitable organization.
Phish Archivist Kevin Shapiro will host a gallery talk Nov. 4. The event promises free Ben & Jerry’s Phish Food ice cream, and a limited edition Jim Pollock poster to benefit WaterWheel Foundation.
Here are some artists that contributed to Phish posters: (Sorry if I miss few artist names)
Jim Pollock, Johnny Dombrowski, Tiffany Chin, Brian Steely, Paul Kreizenbeck, Dan Mumford, Nolan Pelletier, Delicious Design, Max Mahn, Travis Gillan, Matt Leunig, Dan Dippel, Rodger Binyone, Kat Flint, Ivan Minsloff, Mark Arminski, Emek, Christopher Peterson, Harry Rossit, etc...
