Artist of the Day, October 28, 2025 : Kris Andrew Small, an Australian graphic artist, illustrator (#2403)

Kris Andrew Small is a world-renowned artist whose work is a vibrant fusion of graphic design, illustration, and activism, characterized by bold color, dynamic typography, and layered textures. His unique visual language—embracing chaos, movement, and abstraction—allows him to tackle important societal themes while maintaining an exuberant and energetic style. Today, his practice spans installation, campaigns, painting, public art, and commercial art, showcasing his versatility across mediums. Throughout Small’s career he has collaborated with some of the worlds largest brands like Apple, Gucci, Adidas, Nike, Honda and Adobe and exhibited at institutions like MAD, The Louvre, Paris, The V&A, Dundee and the Gallery of NSW, Sydney.

A major facet of Kris’ work is typography, which he combines with abstract visuals and collaged photos; a union that has become his signature. Swaying between serious and playful idioms, all of his type is hand-drawn and created without inhibition or restraint. Rather than adhering to grids, guides or rules, Kris instead treats letters like textures and yet another means for him to build his singular style.

The amalgamation of illustrative techniques and graphic design principles is what makes Kris’ work so distinctive and sees him rewriting the very definitions of the disciplines. In converging so many techniques, he has forged a style all of his own; one that rejects formality and embraces self-expression.
