Artist of the Day, October 2, 2026 : Alexander Benz, a German emerging photographer. (#2647)

Alexander Benz is a Paris-based contemporary photographer who bridges rigorous technical training with an advanced academic perspective. Originally from Zurich, Switzerland, Benz refined his craft at the International Center of Photography in New York City before earning a Master’s degree in Art Curating from the University of Stockholm. This dual foundation informs his highly disciplined approach to visual storytelling and conceptual frameworks.

His current personal project, "Myself in Others," explores the intersection of human perception and emotional resonance within the built environment. Benz captures fleeting, spontaneous encounters where the physical surroundings mirror his internal disposition at a precise moment in time. By focusing on unexpected physical gestures, unusual geometries, or partially hidden subjects just prior to eye contact, he documents moments that evoke an immediate psychological response.

Benz utilizes a highly disciplined, minimalist aesthetic to prioritize narrative ambiguity over basic documentation. His deliberate use of a square format, clean spatial environments, and a monochrome palette strips away the distraction of color and isolates the fleeting, often playful subtext of each scene. The resulting images function like cinematic freeze-frames, transforming ordinary daily interactions into profound reflections on modern life. Benz’s work offers corporate collections and institutional galleries an engaging, intellectually rigorous examination of how we navigate, select, and perceive our shared social landscape.
