Reginald Van de Velde (1975) is a Belgian photographer that scouts the unknown and unseen. As a devoted traveler he journeys into forsaken places all over the world, trying to capture the momentum of a fragile abandonment. His works have been exhibited internationally in both solo & group exhibitions. His works have been featured in many publications including The World Photography Awards Book, Aesthetica Magazine, Esquire Magazine, Biennial Interior Book and Beauty in Decay to name but a few. On many occasions Reginald has been programmed as a guest speaker on creative and inspiring sessions around Europe. National archives and libraries have listed many of Reginald's pictures from forgotten structures and interiors that have been erased permanently
Reginald Van de Velde's “Between Nowhere & Never” shows the past splendor of derelict hospitals, mothballed monasteries, defunct power stations, crumbling castles and many other dormant structures. As a devoted traveler, he journeys into forsaken places all over the world, trying to capture the momentum of a fragile abandonment - the result of an intangible desire to explore what mankind has left behind.
His disquietingly atmospheric images are a testament to mankind’s wasteful and excessive nature, the buildings standing empty and crumbling rather than being modernised, converted, or preserved. The lack of compassion shown to these buildings, often historically unique examples of the architecture of their era, is both distasteful and intriguing – shameful to leave these buildings to rot and yet fascinating in seeing exactly how our architecture degrades over years or decades.
