Artist of the day, January 4: Martin Hill , British-born, New Zealand Sculptor, photographer, environmental artist

Martin Hill (1946) was born in London, UK where he was educated in art and design. Since 1992 through multiple forms of publishing including a book in 2007 Earth to Earth, Sculpture inspired by nature’s design, Hill’s environmental sculpture photographs have reached a wide audience internationally.

He has had solo exhibitions in Japan, Sweden, Australia, China, Andorra and New Zealand, and has completed numerous privately commissioned sculptures and projects. The Fine Line Project, begun in 1995 in collaboration with his partner Philippa Jones and nearing completion, is a symbolic line encircling the earth connecting ephemeral sculptures made on 12 high points.
Delicate Canvas, a documentary film of his working practice was made in 2011. The Watershed Project was created during The Kenneth Myer Alpine Artist’s residency he and Philippa were awarded in 2012 high in the Southern Alps of New Zealand near Wanaka where they live.

Watershed was exhibited at McClelland Sculpture Park and Gallery, Melbourne in 2014 and received an award of excellence at Pingyao International Photography Festival. Hill and Jones where invited artists to Antarctica by Antarctica New Zealand December 2014. In 2015 they took part in a NZ Department of Conservation joint artist residency in Dusky Sound Fiordland and had two solo exhibitions:  Andorra Land Art Biennale and Inter Art Centre and Gallery, Beijing. In 2016 were exhibited as finalists at Arte Laguna, Venice and were 1st prize winner in the Conceptual category in the Fine Art Photography Awards.
