Artist of the day, January 23, 2020: Ángeles Agrela, a Spanish artist and painter (#898)

Ángeles Agrela (1966) is a Spanish artist who works with weaving, video, photography, painting, drawing and graphic work. Her creative process usually follows a plotline and a group of works is giving way to others as parts of the same story.

Her work has always been closely related to the body and he often works with references to art itself, to be an artist or what kind of artist.

Ángeles Agrela graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Alonso Cano University of Granada (Spain). She studied at different periods of her career in other countries such as Naples (1991). She received the Manuel Rivera Scholarship in Havana (2007)

She made her first exhibition in 1994 in the halls of the Palace of the Counts of Gabia in Granada, in a decade in which conceptual experiences and political attitudes coexisted

In an interview conducted by art critic Paula Achiaga in El Cultural de ABC, she talks about her reflection on popular culture and advertising. In her research on the History of painting, the artist says: "The great masters are not by chance. In their work, there are always inspiring and solutions. Now I am looking forward to going to Madrid to see the exhibition of Ingres al Prado."

In 2017 she presented two projects always related to the feminine theme and its topics, on the one hand, she created the extensive series “Fanzine”, where through fashion magazines, comics and media objects, she composes her ambiguous drawings and collages using hair as a resource formal and concept, always with a look towards camouflage within pop culture and on the other hand, "The favor of the Beauties", which gives title to the exhibition presented in 2017 at the Yusto / Giner Gallery in Malaga, as well as the extensive project Lucia and her braids that she has exhibited in numerous art spaces both public and private galleries.
