Artist of the Day, November 2, 2023: Bill Zindel, an American artist, illustrator, and designer (#1947)

Bill Zindel is an independent artist, illustrator, and designer who creates collages that are structured yet unrestrained, employing bold colors and patterns with geometric leanings and retro-futuristic tendencies. He draws inspiration from typography, signage, old records, and sacred geometry. His work as a designer informs his art formally, but his love of cutting, pasting, and collecting goes back to childhood. A graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, and teaches printmaking at NIAD Art Center in Richmond, California.

I have always used found objects and imagery in my artwork and these days I'm focusing on making paper collages .I am an obsessive collector of collage material found in old magazines and ephemera. Tiny details, pattern, typography, and outdated styles are what interest me most. My work as a designer informs my work formally, but my love of cutting, pasting, and collecting goes back to childhood. My collages are structured yet unrestrained, employing bold colors and patterns, with geometric leanings and spontaneous tendencies.
