Artist of the Day, July 12, 2024: Per Adolfsen, an emerging Danish painter - expressionist (#2074)

Per Adolfsen is an emerging Danish expressionist artist, who works in colored pencil and crayon. His pieces are known for their unique color schemes and dreamlike textures and patterns that have been influenced by artists such as Edvard Munch. Primarily inspired by nature, Adolfsen has left his studio days behind and purposefully situates himself in nature every day to draw, later recreating what he encounters in his works.

Per Adolfsen has an eye for the beauty of landscapes, which he depicts in pencil and crayon drawings. Adolfsen renders unusual color schemes and swirling patterns and textures to create hallucinatory images that vibrate with energy. Though Adolfsen’s figurative illustrations often appear crude, they are very precise if not accurate in color. The colors are outlandish, but the specificity of the landscape makes it thoroughly believable. Adolfsen’s work has been shown in group and solo exhibitions in Denmark, as well as in New York, Dusseldorf, and Shanghai.
