Joanna Lentini is an award-winning emerging photographer, writer and filmmaker based in rural New York.
Like most kids who grew up in the 80's, Joanna spent the better part of her childhood outside. Whether she was scaling the maple tree in her front yard, barefoot, and with limited supplies, or navigating her way through the adjacent tree-lined yards—she spent hours on end exploring. Each day, as the sunlight waned and the lightning bugs emerged, a solemn feeling took hold as she was summoned inside.
Joanna's personal connection with the natural world has always been a place where curiosity and fear intersect. For the last decade, Joanna has been working to inspire others to spend more time in the outdoors. She promotes her lifelong fascination with the natural world through her dynamic imagery and storytelling.
Joanna's photography has been internationally awarded and exhibited around the world. Her photography has highlighted the work of organizations around the world from the Tongan Fluke Collective in the Kingdom of Tonga, to the Rescate De Lobos Marinos in La Paz, Mexico, and the NYSDEC Amphibian Migrations & Road Crossings Project in the Hudson Valley region of New York.
Her writing and photography has been published in magazines such as Audubon, Smithsonian, Hakai, Oceanographic, and Sidetracked Magazines; and by The Orvis Company in the Summer 2021 Catalog. In 2021, she received the Best Photojournalism Award by the Canadian Online Publishing Awards for work on the Sea Lion Search & Rescue story for Hakai Magazine.
Her work has traveled across the world with the Wildlife Photographer of the Year and Elysium exhibitions, and most recently an image she made of a double-crested cormorant hunting for sardines underwater received grand prize at the 2020 Audubon Photography Awards.
Specialities include: underwater photography and video, certified FAA remote drone pilot, drysuit certified master scuba diver, photography workshops and talks, writing, and cold water environments.
