Born in Frameries, Belgium, Gauthier Poulain left the Centre of Belgium at the age of 12 and joined the Institut Saint-Luc in Tournai to become a painter. He touched everything, he was passionate about graphic art and advertising before focusing on design. Recognised for his special contact with the subject, he graduated with distinction in 2002.
Just out of school benches, Gauthier Poulain set up his own workshop and started artisanal creation of objects and other furniture.
Already very perfecting, he perfects his training by multiple courses; welding, virtual drawing, etc. ... ...
He also participates in many events and exhibitions, such as the Design for Europe and the competition of the young Belgian Design in 2005 of which it is the winner, he is today one of the young Belgian designers who are essential.
It quickly acquired a certain recognition and was entrusted with the design of several public and commercial places, such as the LA VILLA LOCA bar in Brussels or the organic restaurants EXKI in Belgium and France,
Solicited by several individuals, the designer leaves free to his creativity to develop several Brussels houses.
Exhibiting for its first Satellite exhibition edition in Milan with two new products, he was asked by the entire international press of design and decoration for the SUNSHADE lamp and the PASTILLE lamp. The following year, a new participation in the salon allowed him to exhibit his famous RUBAN chair, already cited in several reference magazines (Dam, Box, etc.).
He will then participate in many prestigious events in Milan, New York, Thailand, as well as in Brussels for DesignSeptember during which he has his own exhibition, the BUNCH lamp (a work in duet with Mathias van de Walle on the art of recycling) which will allow him to receive a mention at the Inside Salon Espace de Kortrijk. Once again, Exki trusted the designer and entrusted him with two openings of restaurants at Roissy airport - Charles de Gaulles.
The approach of the designer Gauthier Poulain is based mainly on the need to share emotions and create a poetic and functional communication between man and matter.
Creating his first objects as an architect, the designer has a particular relationship with matter and favors the search for strong contrasts between the latter and colors. He confronts, tries unusual associations to make a block of raw material, an intelligent and aesthetic object.
Very sensitive to shapes and materials, inspired by nature and fervent admirer of the designer Ross LoveGrove, Gauthier Poulain more often advocates finesse and perfect curves, but also knows to be much more "industrial" than an artist.
