Celebrating 500 posts: The Bergeron family
In honor of 500 posts here on Artist of the Day, I wanted to share work that is as personal as it gets: that of my daughters and self. Mia, a painter, and Veronique, a writer have chosen a few pieces to share in addition to a selection of my past work as a designer and sculptor. Read a bit about each of us and check out our work. Please feel free to share!
Thank you for reading!
Véronique Bergeron, American writer
Véronique
Bergeron (1985) is a writer, traveler, food enthusiast, and cat lover
living and working in New York City. Born in the city, she wrote dozens
of "mini" books before she was 8 years old. Most of these books were
about her daily observations, wandering, dreams, and creative
curiosities. As a natural evolution, she was the editor in chief of her
high school newspaper in Atlanta, GA. She then attended and graduated
from Macalester College, a private liberal arts college in St. Paul,
Minnesota with a degree in Creative Writing. She was also the editor in
chief for the Macalester newspaper.
Véronique's love of travel
and writing came together when she spent a year teaching in Rouen,
France. Infamously known as the city where Joan of Arc was burned at the
stake, Véronique kept a blog about her wanderings and experiences in
the historic city (http://beautifulcrowd.blogspot.com). Everything from
Monet's Giverny residence, to the colors she saw while visiting the Mont
St Michel were explored in her blog. Hilarious and poignant, the blog
was later privately published.
Throughout
her life experiences, Véronique has also written poetry, both privately
and in an academic setting. Her biggest influences are Frank O’Hara,
Brenda Shaughnessy, Cate Marvin and Dororthea Lasky. Founded in her love
of nature, her allegiance to personal introspection, and an abstract
appreciation of word harmonies, Véronique's poems deserve to be
revisited several times throughout the reader's own experiences and
evolutions.
Today Véronique is an associate director of verbal
identity for experience and branding firm FutureBrand in New York City.
She continues to write poetry, travel, and has in the past few years
become an avid cat lover, doting on her two cats, Pepper and Tookie.

Mia Bergeron, American painter
From a young age, Mia Bergeron (1980) has been drawn to visual expression, including drawing, painting and design. There are countless framed drawings and paintings of hers in homes of friends and family: a testament to her early passion and skill.
Born in New York City and having lived and work around the world, she has spent thousands of hours painting people, honing in on even the smallest gestures and moments to create portraits and paintings that feel like true celebrations of individuality. As part of her formal training at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Charles Cecil Studio in Florence, Italy, Mia learned to observe the human body and face with care. Whether it was changes in stature or changes in light, she learned to see — and to capture.
Mia is driven to represent the nuance and subtlety that only deep observation can provide. Her paintings are generous without being sentimental — a difficult balance in any medium. While narrative has always been an undercurrent in her work, it is only recently that she made it her focus. Her subjects are often subtle but steeped in autonomy: the women she paints are neither sexual nor androgynous. They are nuanced and varied, and she prefers questions and hints rather than direct statements. Her work is committed to changing the conversation around perceptions of gender in a field long dominated by the male gaze.
Today, Mia lives in Chattanooga, TN with her husband, artist John McLeod. As a leading voice in the local and vibrant art scene, she teaches regular workshops (and is always learning, too). Mia is represented at several galleries across the United States, including Robert Lange Studios in Charleston, SC and Gallery 1261 in Denver, CO. She loves to spend time in nature, collecting feathers or bones, and loves to make her home a welcoming and warm place.

Michel Bergeron, Canadian-American graphic designer, sculptor
|
|
Michel Bergeron (1951) is an artist, father, designer, teacher, and inspirer with over 40 years of creative experience. His visionary endeavors started when he was very young growing up in Quebec, and sketching during class instead of studying his lessons. Luckily, he made creativity his life pursuit.
His education includes attending Pratt institute in Brooklyn NY; Graduating from Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA, and workshops with Armin Hoffman at the Allgemeine Gewerbeschule in Basel. After pursuing an artistic education, he founded and co-partnered BergeronHamel in New York City, a company consisting of a multi-disciplinary team of over 20 designers in the development of projects for major corporations and Fortune 500 companies.
BergeronHamel's designs reached national as well as international audiences to include Dubai UAE, Australia, Hong Kong, and Brazil. Michel's expertise in the area of strategic product direction and branding, trends analysis and anthropology lent to his success as Creative director/mentor of 42 designers for DYWorks in Mumbai, India; Creative Director/Consultant at VGC, a top ranked Indian design firm; and as an AGDA lecturer for post graduate designers in Melbourne and Sydney, Australia. Michel's accomplishments in the field of design are exemplified by the plethora of awards received for outstanding work, including the Clio Gold award for packaging design.
Although much of Michel's career revolves around design, he is also a fine artist. He has regularly practiced his hand at sculpture and painting, looking to everything from fashion to folklore as his muse. In 2017 he was involved with the Naples Arts Association’s "Paint the town" mural project in which he was one of the featured artist to paint a mural on 5th avenue, then he made a mural “For the love of art” at the Naples Arts Association headquarter in Naples.
Today, Michel continues to grow, to investigate, and to share. As a natural continuation of his inquisitive mind and love of expression, he has committed himself over the past few years to a daily blog highlighting artists from various countries and mediums of art. This blog brings him joy, curiosity, and a genuine satisfaction to get to seek, share and sometimes meet artist who are working continuously to change the way we see the world.
