Artists of the Day, February 15, 2022: The designers of the Olympic logos (#1497)

 History of the Olympic Rings

The interlocking rings of the Olympic flag was created by Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the co-founder of the modern Olympic games.  The five rings represented the five participating continents of the time: Africa, Asia, America, Europe, and Oceania.  While the colors of the five rings, blue, yellow, black, green, and red together with the white background of the flag could compose the colors of every nation’s flag at the time of its inception as the official Olympic symbol in 1915.

Here's every Olympic logo from 1896 to 2022

From London's infamous logo in 2012 to the more recent plagiarism controversy over Tokyo's branding for 2020, Olympic logo design has been an important part of the games for over 100 years.

In honor of the summer's Rio de Janeiro Olympics, which has had its fair share of branding criticisms, I created a timeline of every Olympic logo, from 1896 to 2022.
