Artist of the Day, June 23, 2022: Isabella Cassini, an American food photographer (#1603)

Award-winning photographer Isabella Cassini has spent most of her life behind the lens. A commercial photographer with a background in fine arts, her contributions to food photography and advertising over the last decade have won her international recognition. From her kinetic vegetable mandalas to the visceral “Crashes and Smashes” series, Cassini’s work is both playful and impactful.

Whether she’s delving into the culinary delights of her Portland, Oregon home or traveling to new locales, Cassini’s style breathes life into consumer goods, contributing to advertising that diverts from the expected and stimulates a reaction. Clients benefit from her mindful and curious approach and receive individualized attention catering to their voice and product: animal, vegetable, or mineral.

Isabella Cassini love for creating concept-based images is evident in her extensive portfolio of exciting and bold imagery.

She loves exploring new ideas through skilled lighting, precision, and composition. Isabella's infatuation with photography began when she picked up her first camera at age 14. Originally hailing from Los Angeles, she now lives and works in NY, but loves returning home on assignment as well (especially in the winter!).

In 2014, Isabella Cassini won several awards at the International Photography Awards, including 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in 'Food', and 1st place in the overall 'Advertising' category (non-pro). She also took the Grand Prize for PDN’s food photography contest, 'Taste', catching the eye of judges from Bon Appetit, Saveur, Kinfolk Magazine, Modern Farmer and the Food Network Magazine.

Isabella's love for photography began when she picked up her first camera at age 15. Later, she landed a job with AtEdge (an exclusive photography publication showcasing the work of exceptional editorial and commercial photographers), as well as the esteemed Lucie Awards and IPA, allowing her to work with the industry's top talent and study their imagery intimately. This influenced her taste and eye, as Isabella had a growing desire to push the envelope and create cutting edge photos.

Much of her work, whether personal or commercial, stems from these early exposures; always striving to live up to the legendary photographers that came before her, and to make well-crafted and unique images.
