Alain Bertrand (1946) has discovered his gift for drawing during his childhood. He would copy comic magazine covers like Mickey or Tintin. He spent his teenage years in a boarding school in Evreux, France. There was an American military base close to the boarding school and he discovered this way American cars (Cadillac, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile…). Immediately, he becomes passionate about the American universe.
He traveled for the first time in the USA in 1976. The trip was a revelation for him; he discovered the universe of trucks. They will have a great influence on his work.
Having worked as advertising illustrator, he quits his job and start to paint full-time. His works are influenced by hyperrealism. He paints the USA of the '50s, US cars, airplanes or bands from the '70s. Influenced by Norman Rockwell, Edward Hopper or Richard Estes, he wants to show the American way of life.
Alain Bertrand shows his paintings in sevaral art galleries, in Europe, in Paris, London, in Belgium, in Portugal… and in the USA.
