Artist of the Day, December 10, 2020: Boogie, a Serbian photographer (1168)

 Boogie (born Vladimir Milivojevich) (1969) is a photographer from Serbia, based in Brooklyn, New York. Born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia, Boogie began photographing rebellion and unrest during the civil war that ravaged his country during the 1990s. Growing up in a war-torn country defined Boogie’s style and attraction to the darker side of human existence. He moved to New York City in 1998. He has published nine monographs, IT’S ALL GOOD (2006), BOOGIE (2007), SAO PAULO ( 2008), ISTANBUL (2008),  BELGRADE BELONGS TO ME (2009), A WAH DO DEM (2016), IT’S ALL GOOD ANNIVERSARY EDITION (2016), BELGRADE GUIDE (2017) and MOSCOW (2019). He has shot for high profiled clients and has been published in world renowned publications. His recent solo exhibitions include Paris, New York, Tokyo, Milan, Istanbul and Los Angeles.

In 1997 Boogie was granted a Green card for United States lawful permanent residency through its Diversity Immigrant Visa lottery program. He moved to New York City in 1998 and is based in Brooklyn.

He was featured in Cheryl Dunn's Everybody Street (2013) documentary film along with other photographers who have used New York City streets as a major subject in their work.
